👋Good Morning and welcome to 11 new subscribers, you’re in great company👋 It’s been a week…America popped China’s balloon, Melbourne had snow in summer and Australia gives King Charles the boot from the five dollarydoo note.

🏖Things you may have missed🏖

🤯The BIG stories🤯

A GIF showing someone asking Bard “What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope can I tell my 9 year old about?” and being served some relevant answers.

The hype surrounding ChatGPT has been insane, just go on LinkedIn to see ‘the best prompts’ or ‘how it’s going to change everything!’ This has naturally put Google’s nose out of joint and after poor earnings again, the tech behemoth has teased Bard, its LLM rival.

CGPT created a RED ALERT at Google, where the TikTok influencers put down their acai bowls and beetroot smoothies to rush to launch Bard, with $300m injected to ensure rollout ASAP. We are witnessing the next evolution of search, although if you’ve f**ked around with any AI tool, the accuracy can be very hit & miss at times.

Hold ya horses…Merely 24 hours after this announcement, Bing enters the room with its feathers up, shoulders back, and strutting in red bottoms…Microsoft announced that Bing, & Edge browsers will be powered by ChatGPT AI.

Did the boomers know something we didn’t? Were we sleeping on Edge/Internet Explorer all this time?! But, but, but. It doesn’t stop there. It’s also incorporating AI into its productivity suite - i.e. Word, Powerpoint, Microsoft Teams! Who knew this space could be so thrilling?

😎Cool & Creativ3😎

To all of those that still use Reels, you’ll probably see this next year so a quick update if you weren’t aware…Deinfluencing is a hot new trend (check the numbers) where TikTokers are calling BS on products they’ve been made to buy and that are just a bit sh*t.

Marketers, this is a warning. The influencers are sentient! The golden days of paying to push a product and have a micro ambassador spruik your products, even if they don’t use them. No one is safe!

📚Studies & Research📚

2023 Gartner Emerging Technologies and Trends Impact Radar

HERE WE GO! Gartner creates another speculative look at the next 8 years with Emerging Technologies - in a diagram made by consultants for consultants. This year’s Emerging Technology radar is brought to you by such terms as neuromorphic computing, synthetic data, and everyone’s favourite, hyper-automation in security!

Despite plowing billions of $$$ into the Metaverse, Zuck will have to wait 6-8 years for the lift-off of his utopia. In all seriousness, Gartner has been very conservative this year and without subject knowledge in everything, I look forward to the future with our robot overlords.

🤓Technology & Tracking🤓

A TV displays a McDonald’s ad playing on YouTube’s homepage. The ad shows two women ordering at a McDonald’s drive thru.

What’s old is new, what’s new is old. Welcome to advertising, where we constantly reinvent or ctrl+v what’s worked in previous years…YouTube has launched a Cost Per Hour masthead to ‘own moments critical to your business.’ Basically, home page takeovers are back in vogue but with added Connected screens for HIGH IMPACT…

An interesting one. On the one hand, it’s a tried & tested formula for selling ads but Masthead per hour also gets you eyeballs on those important Connected TV screens. A smart tactic to be amongst the noise in high-impact placements, it just doesn’t feel very innovative to me.

📱Best of the Net📱

Finally, following last week’s Widget where I shared an article about Nine’s Tennis TV ratings - I’d like to apologize to Alex Trumble for…
