š Welcome to the 6 new subscribers, youāre in great company! Europe is still sweltering with rivers receding, Musk subpoenas Jack Dorsey, and Zuckerberg becomes a meme But, lots to celebrate with the 69th edition - sponsored by Elon Musk.
šThings you may have missedš
š¤ÆThe BIG storiesš¤Æ

āNetflix is done! Disney+ has the same amount of subscribers after two years.ā But young padawan, how will Disney grow with such a low ARPU? Lots of chat around Netflix after subs fall for the first time, but Netflix is still pulling in $11.70~ vs Disney at $5.9~ a year.
Ignore the terrible formatting on the above chart (top tip - you never need guidelines) but a slightly different narrative than what weāre led to believe. And whilst Disney has rapidly achieved scale, itās a tough conversation to raise their prices 2-3x with the same perceived value provided. One to watchš

In a US study from 2014-2022, TikTok has seen an almighty growth (obviously) with 13-17 years olds. However, Facebook has seen its use amongst this demo implode worse than Carlton in the fourth quarterā¦
A pretty MASSIVE fall, as the share of teens who say they use Facebook, plummeted from 71% to 32%. YouTube is still the platform of choice, with 95% of teens saying they use it followed closely by TikTok, Insta & Snap. US figures, but fascinating nevertheless!

As if Steve Aokiās music wasnāt bad enough, heās now flogging his art to unexpecting idiots. Artists in Spotify will now be able to sell us their NFTs in what appears to be the most ironic feature of ALL TIME.
Artists turn to NFTs and other tokenized means of making money after the digitization of the music economy leaves sweet f*** all for artists, with the main culprit being - you guessed it - Spotify. The Swedish streaming giant then adds NFT collections for their artistsā¦Or, you could pay them fairly?
šStudies & Researchš

Itās the most wonderful time of the year! Well, for nerds like me anyway. As the Gartner Hype cycle of Emerging Tech 2022 was released. The big talking points? Web3 and the Metaverse touted as 5-10+ years away and NFTs rapidly heading down from the peak of inflated expectations.
The themes for this yearās Hype Cycle are; AI, Expansive immersive experiences, and technology delivery. Personally, delighted to see a realistic, rational view on Web3 and the Metaverse - ad people, take noteš

Today I learned that Oracle has 5bn consumer profiles in its database, Iāve also learned that the 5bn large consumer identity graph potentially violates privacy laws - this could get real ugly, especially if itās against GDPR or CCPA.
If you work with MarTech or first-party data, then this number should frazzle your tiny little brain (like it did to me). I am all for privacy, itās very important OFC. But, Oracle. Please tell me your secrets on how you scaled your database to nearly 62% of the WORLD.
