Hello and welcome to the final Widget of the year, but never fear this isn’t a ‘best-of' round-up - I’m not that lazy. There’s been a whopping 47 editions this year with 302 subscribers, a 25% open rate, and the average Widget is viewed 400+ times - so thank you all for reading, and to those that share it means a lot.💕

Things You Should Know 👀

“First party data, at scale” - how every publisher deck ended this year. But, cookie-reliant-monster Criteo has switched ploy and made one of the best low-key purchases this year with IPONWEB which could actually facilitate this adage

TIL that IPONWEB is a company that’s powered most ad-tech companies and developed tech that’s fuelled the RTB & programmatic landscape that we know and love. This purchase is a big deal and has the big swingers frothing, one to keep an eye on.

Cool Stuff😎

Adidas bought an ape. Nike creates a virtual world in Roblox. Adidas buys virtual land. Nike acquires leading virtual sneaker & apparel maker RTFKT. Your move Adidas…

Huge news and a real statement of intent from Nike. RTFKT (pronounced artifact) recently created 20,000 avatars that sold out instantly, ranging from 0.05 ETH to 3 ETH ($15k), and are now selling for 5 ETH+ ($25k)

What we’ve learned📚

Yoink!

It’s almost like there’s a use case for the web3 movement here…Pretty disappointing from a company looking to embrace the new virtual world where you own your own virtual life, a very Zuck move.

Multiple irises featuring teenagers on location maps. In the background there is a network of circles with dollar signs on them.

But, we already knew this right? An interesting read on where to next for Life360, with the acquisition of Tile rumored in the next year. There is an option to opt-out of tracking though, just very well hidden

The Nerd Corner🤓

iOS14 was one of the biggest stories this year, and I’m fed up of even typing out the acronym. But some privacy nerds have discovered that despite the agreements with Facebook & Apple for anonymization are still leaking user data

I imagine this one will keep raring on well into 2022 as the full effects are not realized yet. This is an interesting discovery though, with third-party players still utilizing fingerprinting techniques to capture that juicy data.
