Things you may have missedš
Things You Should Know š

HERE WE GO! Facebook has changed its name to Meta, alongside one of the worst videos Iāve seen in a while. A cynic may say it looks like smoke & mirrors to take the heat off of Facebook, however, it has big implications for the metaverse!
Alongside Coinbase being the #1 downloaded app, Facebook working on crypto, brands jumping on NFTs & sh*t coins mooning - this space is gaining lots of traction.

The US unsealed documents from last yearās antitrust complaint against AdTech giant Google, and itās explosive. The case alleges that it systemically skews the working of itsā ad business & there was even collusion with Facebook.
The 173-page complaint alleges that Google & Facebook took to ākillā the free market publishers & header bidding, whilst also alleging that the cookie was purposefully killed off to create stronger walled gardens. Google has bit back, stating that itās āriddled with inaccuraciesā

Hooley Dooley, itās one thing after another over here in Aus! Fresh out of lockdown, marketers, agencies & data brokers could face more misery as the long-awaited Online Privacy Code has been drafted.
Coined as the Australian version of Europeās GDPR, this draft legislation looks to enforce stronger privacy laws. What does it layout?
More power to an individual, who can request for their data not to be shared or used as well as the right to erasure
Strengthens protections for children (under 16) using social media
Similar to GDPR, companies that fail to comply could face hefty fines or criminal penalties
Ensuring data is anonymised
Cool Stuffš

Probably nothingā¦Roblox now allows players to import their own 3D layered clothing. Why is this important? Well, itās another step into the Metaverse allowing users to create their own identity & opening the door to interoperability.
No one wants noodle hair. This new addition opens the door to multiple use cases for not only NFTs, but advertisers & brands. Your avatar or outfit can live in multiple worlds, pretty damn cool.
What weāve learnedš

When does she sleep?! Zoe Scaman & Might Networks have created an awesome study into independent creators & the creator economy - living outside the big platforms to make bank. With ā70% saying that a dip in earnings from an algorithm change could have serious effects on their life.ā
The latest research, (which is available with a tweet to unlock mechanic) dives into the growing creator economy that lives outside of Big Tech & social and comes at a perfect time as FaZeClan launch via SPAC & hell, youāre reading my substack!
The Nerd Cornerš¤

Snap hits a snag. Despite posting a 4% increase in daily actives, Appleās ATT & supply chain woes were the cause for the ephemeral social app to miss out on revenue expectations, plummeting stock 22%
As forecasted by many nerds, the dust has cleared and the damage is clear to see. Appleās cynical privacy play is starting to hurt the silicon valley sweethearts. Donāt worry though, Facebook beat earnings but missed revenue⦠phew!
