Things You Should Know 👀

STOP THE COUNT! Facebook is changing how it counts people for ad measurement, so if you don’t link your Insta to Facebook you’re counted as two separate people… Well, this could be a bit of a pickle.
This change has been enacted to give users more control over how their information is used for ads. One to keep an eye on, especially when it comes to planning & reporting

“Ah, we don’t need TikTok on the plan, it’s just Gen Z doing dances!” Why isn’t TikTok taken seriously? 1bn users, more avg watch time than YouTube and it’s had its privacy concerns. But, it’s all dancing, right?
Really enjoyed this article and made me think. I haven’t seen a dancing TikTok in forever! In Media, we can be guilty of these biases, have a read, have a rethink!
Cool Stuff😎

The days of big TV events to launch albums seems forever ago, even your weird aunties favourite band - Coldplay, are starting to innovate. Sending their 5 fans on a treasure hunt across Spotify & OOH.
Coldplay teased their new album utilising the Canvas feature on Spotify (the looped videos) and then to a Westfield interactive billboard where they could scramble the message to get lyrics to the new single. Slow news week…
What we’ve learned📚

I’m just teasing of course. But there is a real gap in perception between the briefs delivered vs received. An excellent article from Ritson on how to improve briefs to agencies and how agencies (creative & media) can assist in this process.

This definitely isn’t a new topic, nor groundbreaking for us savvy marketers. But, Prof G breaks down and illustrates the issues of the Digital advertising industry beautifully. US-based, but a great, palatable read.
Personally I just really love the illustrations, I’ll definitely be knicking these to add to my slides. Always good to reshare articles like this though, there are still barriers to the advertising supply chain but initiatives like ads.txt, ad. cert & companies like Alkimi look to change this.
The Nerd Corner🤓

“OI Nerds. Turn off the AI, will you? It’s going to put us in deep water soon. What do you mean it’s too powerful?!” Can we mere mortals stop AI? How can you regulate something you don’t understand?
Not the first article I’ve seen on the topic, it’s in a hell of a lot of dystopian books too. The AI & algorithms that we’re building are becoming too advanced, meaning that we can’t reprogram or stop biased AI. Uh oh.
