Welp, the AI wars are heating up. OpenAI ‘shocked’ the world as it released ChatGPT 4o, an inter-modal that makes it look like magic. Google tried to play catch-up, integrating Gemini into everything including the kitchen sink. But the biggest news has been the dissolution of the AI safety team at OpenAI, not to mention Sam Altman using Scarlet Johannson’s voice - despite her saying no (see quote for a new ick).

Oh, Sam. So lots to cover here. The biggest outtakes here;

  1. The rapid growth of a technology that is aiming for Artificial General Intelligence requires no end of safety as we’ve seen this film before. Was the original firing of Mr Altman the correct move after all?

  2. Google’s ability to merge its AI tools into its suite of products is compelling but, can they land the plane? So far, no bueno.

  3. AI safety will continue to be a HUGE topic, i’m not sure anyone is ready for AGI. The consequences of not having proper safety protocols are kinda too scary to think about…

When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered and in disbelief that Mr. Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine that my closest friends and news outlets could not tell the difference.

This has been a talking point for a while now (& the report is pretty old), but f*ck it grinds my gears. Especially when it comes to influencers saying that the Marketing funnel should change alongside this, then use different words for Awareness, Consideration and Conversion.

Hey, not sure if you’re aware, but cookies are being deprecated despite Google’s best efforts to keep them forever. In this new study from Garrett Johnson, they examined the impact of this loss for over 1,000 advertisers. This test looked at;

• 🍪 Cookie-based targeting (status quo)

• 👀 Cookieless ads

• 🎯 Google Sandbox targeting

Chrome users were randomly assigned to one of these groups, allowing for insights into both traditional attribution/click analyses and the actual incremental impact…What did the study find? Well, well, well, there will be conversion losses of 40-85% and the experimental comparisons only show 3.6-6% of conversion may be lost. Credit to Nico Neumann

Netflix, off the back of rolling out an actually good ad product(?!) has taken the next step, of in-housing the tech and rolling out to DSPs like Trade Desk, DV360 & more. Oh, and Prime with ads is going to follow shortly too!

A very smart move by Netflix, the juries out on Prime atm. If you too are a penny pincher and are weirdly curious about new ad experiences, I highly recommend it - frequency capping and timing of delivery are *chefs kiss*
